Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

They Aren't Carrying Anything Anymore

"It's logical to say that in a shooting situation, open-carry can be detrimental to the safety of individuals."  -- Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings

Open-carry, concealed-carry, cheap Chinese carry-out -- they're all bad ideas, potentially detrimental to your health.  The first two can be lethal.

Concealed-carry licenses sure didn't help Alton Sterling or Philando Castile one little bit.  They're not carrying anything anymore.  The Dallas shooter, Micah Johnson, was just one of a score of licensed open-carry yahoos at the scene of the peaceful-up-to-that-point protest.  The only thing all those "good guys with guns" managed to accomplish was to confuse the authorities and muddy the waters.

The truth is obvious:  More guns in public areas increase risk, they don't decrease it.  We do not want or need an armed society.

All this strap-up, macho, cowboy horseshit must end.
