Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

A Rancid, Stinking Sausage

It's said that laws are like sausages -- you should never watch either one being made.

A page of the actual tax cut scam bill as submitted and
voted on last night.
Half typed, half hand-written, all travesty.
Late last night, GOP Senators ignored the will of the people and barely passed their rancid, stinking, sausage of a tax scam bill.  The worst wurst.  Their efforts were so rushed and slap-dash that their final document was 497 pages of gobbledygook with lots of last-second changes hand-scribbled in the margins.  Seriously.

I'm proud of Sherrod Brown and all the other Democrats who resisted this farce.  Brown said this:

"I am so amused at how any of my Republican colleagues can talk about this as a legitimate process, that they wanted Democratic support.

"But do you know what happened? You know exactly what happened. They all went down the hall here to the majority leader's office, all my Republican friends. He had their Wall Street lobbyists with them, drug company lobbyists, tobacco company lobbyists. That's where they wrote the bill.

"There was no light of day on this. My Republican colleagues on this committee tell us it was a legitimate process that night we had the markup in the finance committee. You call it legitimate? You give us a bill with almost no warning, you try to jam it through, you change it in the middle of the night. Then we talk about it the next day. Then you change it in the middle of the night again.
"Don't even insult us by saying this is a legitimate process."

That's my homey, telling the truth and givin' 'em hell!  Attaboy, Sherrod!
