Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

Last Man Standing . . . Is Me?

We went to a wonderful gathering last Saturday of some of my oldest, dearest and best friends.  Six couples on this occasion.  We've all known one another since college days, and have stayed in touch ever since.  Whole lot of history going on.

Definitely not Buster Gammons.
But WalMart greeter could be my next gig!
The stated reason/excuse for this party (but who really needs an excuse?) was the recent retirement of one guy.  Another guy had retired a couple months back.  And that's when it dawned on me -- I'm the only poor dumb bastard who's still working!  Admittedly, I'm not working all that hard (at least at my paying job), but I am still working and will continue until I don't.

Meanwhile, all my old besties are officially travelling, spending their childrens' inheritance, and wearing sensible shoes.

Which makes me the last man standing -- somewhat unsteadily, but still standing.  Not sure how I feel about that.
