Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

His Pants Are Flammable, But His Balls Are Brass

He's an utterly unqualified political joke, a bought-and-paid-for zero. But the money men are keeping him in the race against incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown. At this point, Josh Mandel has already told so many lies, he has nothing to lose by telling more.

Mandel's latest ad is nervy, if nothing else. In it, he takes Brown to task for "missing over 350 votes" and showing up for work only to vote for tax hikes and to increase his own pay.

This stat refers to the entirety of Brown's service dating back to January 1993, first as a congressman, then as senator. In that time, he has missed 351 of 10,704 recorded or roll call votes, or essentially 3%. (Faithful readers may recall that Buster and Brown are homeys. Buster can attest that during that time Brown got divorced, remarried, and buried both parents. A day off here and there is called for.)

Just a couple examples for comparison: Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky) has missed 5% of the votes; Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) 8%; and Sen. John McCain (R-Az) 10%.

Since being sworn in as senator in January 2007, Brown's voting percentage is 99% plus.

Since taking office as Ohio Treasurer in January 2011, Joshie Boy has done literally nothing but raise funds for his senate run, and notoriously missed 13 straight months of Ohio Deposit Board meetings, which he was supposed to chair.

And now, to attack Brown as some sort of no-show slacker -- you're slime, Josh, but you've got balls!
