Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

The Selfish-Made Man

Donald Trump is a big fucking liar.  Who knew?  (Hint:  Everybody!)

King Kon has long portrayed himself as a "self-made man," a business wizard who took a one-time "small" one million dollar loan from his father and, with his very, very large brain, turned it into his vast $10 billion real estate empire of today.  Except he's not worth anywhere near $10 billion, and he owns relatively little, but slaps his name on everything.  (And my dad never lent me a piddling million.  Did yours?)

And except he's lying -- bigly! -- about the amount and frequency of financial help from Daddy Dearest.  Little Donnie Diaperpants was, at age 3, getting $200,000 a year Fred Trump Sr.  Young Donnie John was a millionaire by age 8.  As for that small, one-time loan, turns out Fred gave his favorite spawn $61 million ($140 million intoday's dollars) for starters.  As an adult, The Donald received $5 million a year from his father, and over the years, took in the equivalent of $413 million total.  Basically a gift.  Very little was ever repaid.

The Trumps are obsessed with income taxes, using any angle to pay less tax, including some of which were likely illegal.  We all practice tax avoidance, which is legal.  The Trumps practice tax evasion, which is illegal.  True, the line between the two is often fuzzy, but the Shillsbury Doughboy knows nothing about the distinction and cares even less.  Show his tax returns?  Yeah, right.  (But now the State of New York is investigating.  Uh-oh!)

Donnie Dainty Digits even went so far as to try to rewrite his father's will so as to syphon off assets for his own benefit.  (If you can't screw your dad, who can you screw?)  Fred's lawyers caught wind of the scheme and added a codicil to the will to strip Donald's control of his father's estate:  "Protect assets from DJT and his creditors."  Fred signed it immediately.

There's a great line in the article linked below:

"Rich people are shady motherfuckers who feel no shame in gaming the system." And none is shadier than Donald Trump -- a selfish-made man.
