Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

Let's Hear From Someone Not In "The Basket Of Deplorables"

Cindy Hedges at the
Bourbon Boot Supply
An article in yesterday's New York Times introduced us to one Cindy Hedges of Paris, Ky.  She is probably not a racist, sexist, homophobe, xenophobe, Islamophobe, or one of the other deplorables.

Her husband worked in the coal industry, but lost his job.  (Kentucky blames Obama and the EPA for the collapse of coal mining.)  She owns a retail store selling boots, but business is slow.  (I've been to Paris, Ky.  In a couple weeks, you could sell a pair of boots to everyone in town.  Then what?  Blame Obama.)

Cindy says she voted for Obama in 2008, but now she believes the country is off track and she's "the most fired-up I've ever been for a candidate."  That candidate is Donald Trump.  She acknowledges he's "kind of a loose cannon."  But she likes him anyway.

Cindy says her political decisions are "gut-based."  Oh, I see.  Not based on facts, policy, truth, information, evidence, research, or careful consideration.  Based on gut.

On second thought, Cindy, that's pretty damn deplorable after all.

  1. She follow's her gut. So the question is, what has she been eating?
And which end of her gut is she following?
