Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

Jim Renacci, Modern Republican

In the merry-go-round of the 2018 Ohio elections, U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci (R-Wadsworth) is playing whack-a-mole.  After seven years in Congress, he announced his candidacy for Ohio governor.  He dropped out of that, then popped back up as a candidate for U.S. Senate, running against incumbent Sherrod Brown.  (The previous GOP Senate candidate, Ohio Treasurer and slime-boy Josh Mandel, suddenly withdrew due to a family health issue.)  Renacci will be a slight underdog, but he's a true modern Republican and shouldn't be taken lightly.  Let's get to know him.

Jim Renacci is a former mayor of Wadsworth who was elected to the U.S. House in the Tea-Bagger wave of 2010.  He is one of the wealthiest members of Congress, having made his fortune running nursing homes.  While he touts his success as a smart "business guy," his businesses have been sued multiple times for wrongful death and non-payment of wages.  He and his wife were sued by the IRS for tax evasion, eventually paying $1.3 million to settle.  Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

After Mandel dropped out of the Senate, the Trump administration encouraged Renacci to leave the governor's race (where he would not have made it out of the GOP primary) and enter the Senate race (where he becomes the immediate GOP favorite over unknown Mike Gibbons).  Renacci is not (yet) an issues guy, and says his sole purpose in running is to support the Trump agenda, which is really all you need to know about him.

As if to prove that point, Renacci got off to flying start as a modern Republican this morning, when he appeared on Fox News to defend the indefensible "shithole" comments from our Thug-In-Chief.  Renacci said, "The president only says what the people are thinking.  Judge the president after four years.  Judge him on what he does, not what he says."

Bullshit, Jimbo!  He's the friggin' fake president!  What he says matters tremendously.  And what he says is awful!  He will be judged on it, and should be.

Jim Renacci is just another rich, lying, cheating con man/tycoon, an archetypal modern Republican.
