Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

If You're Not One, Then Get Out

Are you "tired of hearing about racism"?  Do you believe in "reverse racism"?  Are you convinced that Donald Trump is not a racist?

Then you voted for the wrong guy.  You picked the troglodyte who's turned racism and xenophobia into the central defining message of the GOP.

Perhaps you identify with the Pittsburgh Post Gazette's inflammatory editorial on Martin Luther King Day, which equated calling someone a racist with McCarthyism, and defended Trump's racist language and policies as "reason."  (The editorial was immediately and roundly condemned, even by members of the publisher's family.)

Or maybe you identify with the sentiments of one Ruth Yocke of Columbus, Ohio.  On MLK Day, NBA star LeBron James forthrightly criticized Trump as a divider who has given some people license for "outspoken racism without fear."  He also said, "The state of racism will never die, but we cannot allow it to conquer us as a people."

LBJ's comments prompted Ms. Yocke to finish her daily 12-pack of Keystone Lite, click off the Daily Stormer website, and send the following to the Columbus Dispatch sports editor:

"Please refrain from placing LeBron James on the front page of our newspaper.  I could barely read the paper Tuesday thinking about this moron.
LeBron James is a radical racist.  He does not deserve the headlines.  He, like all you liberal morons, feels he has to be put on a pedestal.
He is not the best basketball player on the planet.  He is an overpaid prima donna.  He is not liked any longer here in Columbus or Cleveland or Ohio.
Keep his ugly mug out of our local paper.  This is not a Cleveland newspaper."

(Why the sports editor chose to publish Ms. Yocke's yucky, bigoted words I cannot say.)

These bitter polemics on the right -- regarding MLK Day! --tell us all we need to know about today's GOP.

If you identify as a Republican today, you're more-or-less admitting you're a racist.  So if you're not a racist, why the hell would you call yourself a Republican?  The party's a rat-infested sinking ship.  Snap out of it!

Or, to borrow from Jordan Peele, "Get out!"

  1. The transition of the party I used to support to what it is today is disheartening & disturbing. Shake my head daily at the antics of what used to be the Grand Old Party.

  2. Time to support the other party! We may not be perfect, but the other side is crazy!

  3. My dear boy, please take a step to the right. If you do not, you may suddenly find yourself standing on the other side of the "fence" having become one of the "____ists" you so fervently purport to despise.
