Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

For Joe, Pink Is The New Black

Joe Arpaio, former sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona, was found guilty yesterday of criminal contempt for willfully violating a 2011 federal order to stop his illegal dentention of law-abiding undocumented Hispanics.  Sheriff Joe, self-described as the "America's Toughest Sheriff," is infamous for his racist round-ups of brown people, whom he detained indefinitely in his now-closed outdoor Tent City jail, where daytime temperatures typically exceeded 100 degrees, and prisoners were forced to wear pink underwear.

Now 85 and finally voted out of office, Arpaio made a career of contemptuous disregard for human rights and for the law itself.  He's a certified, genuine, Grade-A asshole.  If there's any true justice, he'll do hard time in a hot desert tent, wearing a pink prison jumpsuit, and paying $100 a day to eat nothing but scraps from a taco truck.
