Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

NO On Ohio Issue 1, YES On Ohio Issue 2

For one last time on our statewide issues, Buster says:

Vote NO on Ohio Issue 1.  It's a so-called "Marsy's Law."  Proponents are fear-mongering, trying to have us believe that crime victims have no rights (which is false).  The solution, they say, is a new constitutional amendment which would tip the scales in favor of the victim.  It is overkill.  Issue 1 is opposed by state associations for both prosecuting attorneys and defense attorneys.

Vote YES on Ohio Issue 2, the "Drug Price Relief Act."  Issue 2 will mandate lower drug prices for Ohio's Medicaid recipients, thereby saving money for the state.  The pharmaceutical industry is opposed, desperately using speculation, scare tactics, and a record-amount $62 million in negative advertising.  If Big Pharma is willing to spend $62 million to keep Medicaid drug prices where they are, how much are they profiting at current price levels?
