Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

Gun Violence: Enough "Eyes Wide Shut"

Now is the time.  It's not a mental health problem.  Carrying more guns in public, even in church, won't help.  What will help is effort, money and votes in support of meaningful gun control.

Our current path -- exemplified by Dolt 45, the Texas AG, and virtually every elected Republican -- is so very clearly wrong;  it's indefensible.  The Second Amendment has been perverted, and the GOP has completely sold out to the NRA.

Any objective person of good conscience and reasonable intelligence cannot support the Republicans' "eyes wide shut" approach to our national epidemic of gun violence.  Our path must change, and right now is the best time to start reversing our course.

All those, both elected officials and private citizens, who do not actively oppose the insanity of the NRA/GOP gun lobby are in fact supporting it.  Those who choose to do nothing are indeed doing something.

The photo is of the Texas terrorist.  He was an evil POS.  He was white.  He was not Muslim.  He was sane enough to plan his attack and wear a ballistic vest.  And he was every bit a home-grown, self-radicalized domestic terrorist, greatly aided in his terrorist scheme by ridiculously easy access to lethal weapons.

If there's any madness here, it's in our national gun policies, or lack thereof.
