Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

Andre The Giant

No, not that one!

I'm talkin' about Andre Almeida, senior center on the Nebraska Cornhusker basketball team.  He may not be quite the equal, size-wise, of The Giant, but he's still a serious load on the court.  Here's Mr. Almeida:

He played the Big Ten opener tonight in Columbus in a losing effort against the Buckeyes.  Unfortunately, Andre the Junior Giant sprained an ankle in the first half and did not return.  But, good Gawd, what an unforgettable beast!  A big, big man, and an atypical basketball physique.

Thirty years ago, the great Charles Barkley played at Auburn at 6' 5" and 250 lbs. and was considered fat.  They called him "The Round Mound of Rebound".

The original Andre the Giant was supposedly 7' 4" and 540 lbs.  Exaggeration?  Maybe, but not much.

Andre Almeida is listed in the program at 6' 11" and 314 lbs.  Did you see him tonight?  I'll buy 6' 11", but 314 lbs. is, shall we say, optimistic.  The big boy is pushing 400 if he's an ounce!  Much closer to the original Giant than to the college Chuckster.

Supersize me!!
