Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

San Bernadino -- How Will The Right Spin It This Time?

It's all such a blur, so easy to lose track.  Is it Charleston?  Paris?  Colorado Springs?  No, today it's San Bernadino.  A few killers, armed with assault weapons, stormed into a meeting room in a regional health facility and started shooting.  Motive unknown.  Lots of people dead and wounded.  Once again, it's god-awful.

The San Bernadino police chief called it an act of domestic terrorism.  True, but the "domestic" qualifier is unnecessary.  What does that even mean?  Clearly, it was terrifying as hell.  It was terrorism, period.

It will be interesting to see how the righties try to spin this latest mass shooting.  What happy horseshit will they peddle this time, trying to wish it all away? Which talking points will the NRA feed them?

One thing is for certain -- they will not acknowledge our obvious American gun problem.  No, no, never!  Idiotically easy access to military assault weapons just could not be the issue.  No problem with that.

More likely, they'll try to blame it on the "mentally disturbed."  Oh yes, it's not that we have a friggin' gun for every man, woman, child, dog and cat in the whole damn country.  No, our problem is just with crazy people.  Guns sure seem to be a magnet for crazy people.  Anyone for fewer magnets?

Maybe they'll go for the old "lack of enforcement of current law" angle.  When literally anyone can immediately buy lethal weapons at a gun show, with no questions asked, who's kidding who?  What "law"?

Certainly Planned Parenthood must have had something to do with it.  Fake videos which prove the connection will be released in Carly Fiorina's mind any moment now.

The attack occurred in a large public health center, a government facility, so Big Wasteful Government cannot escape blame.  An appropriately-sized tiny government would have had an appropriately tiny public health facility, with a tiny staff, which would have meant fewer people wasted, gunned down in cold blood.

Since Big Government has culpability, it follows that it must be Obama's fault.  It's been almost 24 hours since the GOP blamed him for something, so it's time -- Obama did it.

Donald Trump will blame Mexican rapists and vow to build a beautiful wall around San Bernadino.

Ted Cruz will say the shooting was perpetrated by violent registered Democratic felons, possibly trans-gender.

  1. There's surely something wrong. Why are people comitting these Godawful acts? Is it, "I got these guns, I better go shot a bunch of people."? Better find the root of the problem than treat the symptom. Now, is there a need for more and better background checks, yes. Limit magazine capacity, sure. But we better find out why people's frustration drive them to such violent levels!
