Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

Buster's Brief Super Bowl Review

Super Bowl 50, like most of its predecessors, was a triumph of money over everything else, the game included.  But there were a couple highlights.

Lady Gaga absolutely killed it on the national anthem.  Buster is something of an aficionado of the well-done Star Spangled Banner.  Most aren't, but Gaga's ranks among the all-time best.  The link beneath the video will take you to some other memorable renditions.

The best commercial, in my opinion, was Apartments.com.  "Movin' On Up."  George and Weezy?  LOL!  Second place to the weiner dogs of Heinz.

Coldplay was OK at halftime, but Bruno and Beyonce were better.

As for the game itself, two really good defenses, two ineffective offenses, and way too many turnovers, penalties and mistakes, most of them by Carolina.  For a game that was close into the 4th quarter, it was strangely meh.  Denver wins.  Peyton Manning, hail and farewell.

Ah, the good old days!
