Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

The Worst Part Of "Morning Joe" Is Joe

Mika's thinking, "Jesus, here we go again!"
My favorite morning news program is MSNBC's  "Morning Joe", hosted by Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski.  Their focus is straight news and politics.  They avoid the junky tabloid gossip and cooking segments so prevalent elsewhere at that hour.  Their mainstay is lively round-table discussions featuring many knowledgeable commentators.  It's always informative and entertaining, until Joe opens his mouth, which is pretty much all the time.

Scarborough is a former Republican Congressman from Florida, and he reminds everyone of this every five minutes or so.  To his credit, he's generally moderate -- not some hard-ass, hateful conservative.  To his discredit, he's a lousy moderator and interviewer in love with the sound of his own voice.  If Joe interviews you, Joe will do most of the talking.  During group discussions, Joe interrupts everyone and repeatedly talks over other people's air time.  At times, he's a bully -- sort of like the Chris Christie of morning TV.  Mika tries her best to reign him in, but it's tough.  Joe wants the first word, the last word, and most of what's in between.  He makes me scream "Shut up!" at my TV.

I know it's "his" show, but maybe it'd be better if it were "Morning Mika."  I guess that doesn't have the same ring to it, does it?
