Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

Cleveland's Chronic Clowns

Two seasons and gone.  And I just learned their names!
Mercifully, another season for the Cleveland Browns/Clowns has come to a close.  They finished another losing campaign with another loss.  Immediately after the game, the head coach and general manager were fired, which is in keeping with the team's recent habits.

In sports, nobody wins 'em all.  But some organizational stability and continuity is important if you want to win some of 'em.  In their first 50 years of existence, from 1946 through 1995, the Browns had just 8 head coaches, and only 5 general managers.  They were a successful franchise with a winning record and loyal fans.  Then they skipped town and ran off to Baltimore.

The Browns were reincarnated in 1999.  In the 17 seasons since then, their win-loss record stands at a miserable 87-185.  Not only have they employed 24 different starting QB's, they've had 7 head coaches and 7 general managers.  Next season, it will be 8 and 8.  And probably 25 and 26 as well.

The beat goes on.  Beat up on the Browns, that is.  #WaitingForNextYear.
