Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

It's A Trust Thing

While campaigning today in heavily-Hispanic Denver, Mitt Romney flip-flopped on immigration. Mittens tried to throw 'em a bone by saying he would not revoke temporary work permits issued earlier this year by President Obama for certain qualifying undocumented immigrants.

Well, that's different!  In the GOP primaries, the Glove vowed to veto the DREAM Act, called it a "handout", and bizarrely suggested that illegals should "self-deport."

It's just one example, but it's Romney's political career in a nutshell:  Mitt's been on both sides of every issue, at least twice.  He will literally say anything to gain favor.

His running mate, Paul Ryan, optimistically "mis-remembers" his marathon time.  And he can't explain how his mystery-math budget will pay for $5 to $6 trillion in tax cuts, mostly for the wealthy.  It's complicated, he can't go into all of it right now, and wants us to just trust him.

Sorry, I can't do that.  Romney-Ryan and the trust thing.  Does not go together.

I'm reminded of Reggie Jackson's comment when asked to compare his Yankee manager, Billy Martin, with team owner George Steinbrenner.  Said Reg:  "One's a born liar, and the other's convicted."

(I'm aware that neither Romney nor Ryan has been convicted, but give it time.)
