What the hell is wrong with the Boy Scouts? After an ages-long ban on participation by any sort of homosexual, the BSA tippy-toed a couple inches out on a limb and said they would consider allowing each local Scout District/Council to decide for themselves to accept or deny gays, as each saw fit. (Ooh, what a gutsy call -- Punt!!) Then today they announced they can't get their shit together to agree to even that wimpy half-measure. They'll put off this humongous, earth-shattering decision for a few more months, while they think further about . . . what?
Straight, gay, or in between -- it has no impact on merit badges and camping trips. Puh-leeze!
The problem seems to be that many Scout organizations are supported, directly and indirectly, by churches, and socially speaking, many of these upright theologians are living in the past -- deep in the past, like in the Dark Ages!
Another example of religion playing a constructive, helpful role in our lives.
