Worth noting: Step 1 for U.S. gun buyers is essentially optional. Instant background checks aren't required if you purchase your lethal weapon at a gun show or a swapmeet or out out of some guy's trunk. Approximately one third of all U.S. gun sales occur this way. For many Americans, buying a gun takes about half an hour. In some other countries, it can take months.
