Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

Meanwhile, Back At The Ranch . . .

Whether he's lobbing paper towels at hurricane victims, taunting North Korea and Iran into war, misspelling his insults to Senators, challenging his Secretary of State to an I.Q. test, tweeting at ESPN, pronouncing Puerto Rico with a racist Jose Jimenez accent, trying to destroy health care, poisoning the environment, or ruining our country in myriad other ways, we all know that our King of Chaos is flat out bat-shit crazy.  All we can hope to do is limit the damage before we vote his incompetent ass outta here!

But we must not forget all the "real" Republicans who are also floating around out there.  Some of them detest Trump too, and some may seem moderate in comparison, but that doesn't mean they aren't just as crazy, greedy and destructive in their own right.

Here are four good/bad examples, the Republican candidates for Ohio Governor.

Jim Renacci, business mogul, 4-term U.S. Rep and one of the wealthiest members of Congress with a net worth of over $300 million.  Jim's a hard-right Tea-Baggin' Trump lover who promises to crush unions with right-to-work laws and freeze any spending increases in the state, no matter what.

Mary Taylor, current Lieutenant Governor, accountant and tax simpleton ("Make the return the size of a postcard!").  She recently said she would not ban bump stocks on semi-automatic weapons like those used in the Las Vegas massacre.  She said we should focus instead "on the individual."

Jon Husted, current term-limited Secretary of State.  He specializes in voter suppression efforts. He reduced early voting opportunities, made absentee voting more difficult, supported voter ID laws, and purged tens of thousands of voters from Ohio's registration lists, all while admitting that voter fraud is extremely rare.  He himself is fraud personified, having served in the state legislature representing Dayton (from a vacant mailing address house) while he and his family lived for years in Upper Arlington.  He has criticized current Ohio Governor John Kasich for "undermining" Donald Trump.

Mike DeWine, current Ohio Attorney General, former Lieutenant Governor, former U.S. Senator.  He's an ethically-flexible  party loyalist and a dyed-in-the-wool social conservative.  As A.G., he brought suit in federal court against Obamacare and defended Ohio's gay marriage ban in the U.S. Supreme Court.  He is staunchly anti-abortion rights.

And of course, they're all deeply concerned about opioid addiction.  How courageous.

Trump is a loser, a childish lunatic, but these four "traditional Republicans" aren't really any better.  And one of them will probably become our next governor.  Help!
