Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

This Is Just Too Predictable

Initial responses to the San Bernadino massacre:

GOP presidential candidates Ted Cruz, Chris Christie, Ben Carson, Jeb Bush, Mike Huckabee, John Kasich, Lindsey Graham and Rand Paul all tweeted out their "thoughts and prayers" (while they counted their NRA campaign contributions and otherwise kept silent).

Carly Fiorina went on Fox News to excoriate "the left" for "not enforcing existing gun laws."  (That didn't take long.)

At today's Republican Jewish Coalition in D.C. (a.k.a. the Sheldon Adelson primary), Ted Cruz segued from his worthless thoughts and prayers into his assertion that we are "at war" against Islam and so "we need a war-time president."  (i.e., it's Obama's fault.  That didn't take long either.)

Speaker Paul Ryan went on MSNBC to explain why we can't do anything about letting those on the "no-fly" list buy guns legally.  With a straight face, he said, "Some are on that list by mistake and we must not violate their [gun] rights."  (For conserva-tards, the right to obtain a gun is sacrosanct and supersedes all other rights, including the right to not get shot.)

Madness!  Madness!
