Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

The Monster Strikes Again. Parkland, Florida.

  • Don't tell me there's nothing that can be done.
  • Don't tell me it's a mental health issue.
  • Don't tell me that no law could've prevented it, or that it's too soon to talk about it, or that what we need are armed teachers, ushers, bell boys and fry cooks.
  • Don't trot out all the usual bullshit excuses.
  • And take your thoughts and prayers and shove 'em.

Our problem is obvious -- it's The Gun.  Way too many, far too easy to get, much too lethal.

It's intolerable.  Every knows there are many things that can be done to correct our problem.  Now is the time to begin.  Change must come from federal legislation -- and plenty of it -- directed at gun and ammo makers, gun retailers, gun buyers and gun owners.  The corrections will be a process, not an event.  There will be no perfect solution or guaranteed prevention, just much needed improvement over time.  Progress.

The well-practiced inaction of conservative lawmakers is a moral outrage.  These craven chicken-shits live in fear of the gun lobby turning on them.  For campaign cash and an A-rating from the NRA, they're willing to remain quiet and compliant.  It's shameful.

If you're a gun owner and understand that we have a Problem With The Gun, and especially if you're a conservative owner of multiple guns, please contact your state, local and federal Republican legislators.  The GOP created this monster, they continue to feed it, and you must pressure them to stop it.  Tell them you expect action from them.  Now!  Tell them that you, as a gun owner, insist upon it.  Tell them you will no longer reward their spineless inaction with your vote.

You can do that much.  If you won't, then you are part of the problem.
