Could It Be . . . Satan?
Rep. Joe Barton (R-Tex) is a career shill for the oil and gas industry, a climate change denier and a shameless one-issue hack. Among his many prevarications, he's most infamous for his crazy-ass assertion that wind is a "finite resource" and "harnessing" it would "slow the winds down and cause temperatures to go up." Yeah, whatever, Joe.
But that's not his latest boggle. No, Texas Joe is currently all in a Biblical tizzy about his latest proposal on the House floor to lift restrictions on American crude oil exports. Would-be house House bills are assigned numbers in sequence, as they come up. Almost always, it's no big deal.
His latest legislative attempt to benefit the petrochemical tycoons was routinely given the designation of House Resolution 666. NOOO! The number of the beast! Bad mojo!
Countless bills have worn the same number without comment, but Superstitious Oily Joe was quick to persuade the House honchos to change his bill from HR 666 to HR 702, "to keep the focus on the real issue," and just to be safe from, you know . . . Satan!!!!!
Here's hoping all of Joe Barton's bills go straight to hell.
