Welcome to Buster's Blog

Irregular commentary on whatever's on my mind -- politics, sports, current events, and life in general. After twenty years of writing business and community newsletters, fifteen years of fantasy baseball newsletters, and two years of email "columns", this is, I suppose, the inevitable result: the awful conceit that someone might actually care to read what I have to say. Posts may be added often, rarely, or never again. As always, my mood and motivation are unpredictable.

Precautionary Earthquake

There were two earthquakes yesterday in northeastern Ohio.  Official from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources shut down a nearby fracking brine injection well.  The ODNR said this decision was just a precaution, and that the quakes had absolutely no connection to the fracking activity.

Funny.  A couple years ago, the exact same thing happened in the exact same spot.  Back then, the earthquakes were in fact directly tied to fracking and drilling injection wells, and fracking was indeed found to be responsible for over 100 earthquakes in Ohio.  Today, miraculously, there's no connection.  (So if they're unrelated, why take "precautions"?)

I'm no expert, but it seems to me we've turned Youngstown, Ohio into the Ring of Fire and Mother Nature is expressing her opinion of fracking with a few "precautionary" earthquakes, just to get our attention.
